Top Cleric: Lukewarm Sermon: Take a Stand - Actions

1 – Pray that Pastor Price revisits his address on “The ‘Same-Sex’ Marriage Dilemma.” As one of Canada’s most nationally respected evangelical pastors, his sermon on same-sex marriage and homosexuality (delivered on May 1, 2005 at the height of the marriage redefinition fight) needs further public scrutiny.  If his advice and counsel, under the theme that same-sex marriage presents a quandary for Christians illuminates the scriptural path to follow, more believers need to hear this wisdom.  On the other hand, if this sermon, on such a crucial topic, holds little in common with his usual biblical-based Living Truth dissertations; is little more than a collection of under researched opinions and repeated pro-gay ideological constructs, then Pastor Price should admit this.

2 – Pastor Price has the right to hold whatever opinions he wishes; however, when Christian clergy at any level, but particularly of his influence, speak from the pulpit they should clearly state when their message is anchored to the Word and when it is really based on speculation and personal estimation.  When evangelical pastors speak on the basis of personal meditation and prayer the assumption in the audience is that their message will be scriptural.  It is unsatisfactory to take less than ten percent of a sermon to brush away scripture and spend the remainder of the talk on issues following from “However, having said that.” Moreover, is there any common sense in stating, “You know Jesus was a liberal, wasn’t he?  He was very liberal towards people caught in sin” in a sermon on same-sex marriage, at the height of an Evangelical, Catholic and Orthodox struggle with religious liberalism, at a time when the political Liberals were mired in scandal and Martin Liberals were pushing for marriage redefinition?  Indeed, was it prophetic or just careless to speak in May 2005 of the inevitability of same-sex marriage in Canada?  Christians in Spring 2005 were not in need of ideological, cultural or political-based opinion; they needed to know what Biblical revelation states about homosexuality and same-sex marriage.  This was not what Pastor Price delivered.  His sermon stands as an strong example of why the Christian influence in Canada is so ineffectual.  Compromised liberal theology is lukewarm theology, void of spiritual anointing.  Will someone in the Canadian evangelical hierarchy clarify the evangelical position on homosexism and on how to minister to homosexuals according to scripture?
