EFC Prayer Launch – Study Questions

Q1 – Would it be imprudent to have a national evangelical prayer launch in partnership with say the Jehovah’s Witness, or the Church of Scientology?  Would it be wise to hold the event in a kingdom hall or a convenient downtown Scientology facility? Would it make a difference if the partners were very sincere about prayer and about changing society for the better?  Would it make a difference if the partner shared some tenets of faith but clearly not all?  Would it make a difference if the partner was trying to reform the parent body towards orthodox Christianity?

Q2 – In spiritual warfare, in reverencing God, and in our worship, does it matter with whom we fellowship?

Q3 – Is the United Church of Canada apostate?

Q4 - Are individual churches within the United Church of Canada accountable for the witness of the body to which they hold membership?  Is it scriptural to knowingly adhere to a heretical denomination for half a century and claim over this period to be offering the best witness for Christ?  Is it rational to claim, while the Holy Spirit is burdening the equivalent of one small congregation every five days to leave the United Church of Canada, that your so-called “evangelical” congregation is called to remain?  What are some unbiblical reasons for congregations to remain in compromising associations?

Q5 – If the United Church of Canada professes a belief system that includes the same creed of Christian beliefs that the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada uses as the basis of affiliation, why isn’t the United Church of Canada a member of the EFC?  If the beliefs of 100 National Alliance of Covenanting Congregations have allowed these NACC churches to remain affiliated with both the United Church of Canada and the EFC for decades, what does this say about the NACC’s ability to compromise interests?  Or what does this say about the measure of theological differences?

Q6 – On what basis does the EFC choose to fellowship with a United Church, which is not a member of the NACC (orthodox reformers) and, which is in full compliance with the denominational policies and procedures of the United Church of Canada?  And if the EFC is willing to fellowship with a typical United Church congregation, why not fellowship with the denomination?

Q7 – When the general public sees Evangelicals and Catholics fellowshipping with a United Church or reads about this in a paper, does this association enhance the acceptability of the United Church of Canada in the viewer's eyes or reduce the denomination's status?

Q8 – A key theme of the National Launch of A Year of Prayer in Canada 2005 was repentance.  So who needs to repent and for what?  What do you think should be on the repentance list for the United Church of Canada?  What do you think should be on the repentance list for each individual congregation within the United Church?  Should the orthodox who fellowship with the United Church out of some sense of ecumenicalism, or some desire of convenience, or some archaic association, or some wish to implement a social gospel, or some notion of Christian brotherhood or sisterhood (any reason other than to lovingly witness against religious liberalism); should they repent?
